Is my financial data secure with iExpenses?

Yes, 100%. iExpenses is built on a privacy-first philosophy. All your financial data, transaction history, and preferences are stored exclusively on your device using Apple's secure local database (Core Data). Unless you explicitly choose to enable encrypted iCloud synchronization, no data ever leaves your device.

Do I need to sign up or create an account to use the app?

No registration, email, or account creation is required. You can start tracking your expenses the second you open the app. There are no corporate servers tracking your habits or databases that could be breached.

How does the on-device receipt scanning work offline?

We leverage Apple's high-performance native Vision framework for on-device OCR (Optical Character Recognition). When you scan a receipt, the image is parsed entirely in your device's local memory to extract merchant names, tax, items, and totals. The image is never uploaded to any server and is processed fully offline.

Can I sync my expenses across multiple iOS devices?

Absolutely. iExpenses offers optional iCloud sync. When enabled, your data is synchronized across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices using Apple's native CloudKit framework. The transmission is fully encrypted end-to-end, and only your personal Apple ID has the keys to read it.

Does the app support different profiles and currencies?

Yes. You can create unlimited distinct profiles (e.g., Personal, Business, Travel, Family) to isolate your transactions and budgets. Each profile can be configured with its own primary currency, custom icons, and independent, region-aware reports.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using iExpenses – Spending Tracker ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the App.

2. License to Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules set forth in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

3. Free and Premium Features

Free Version: You may use the basic features of the App indefinitely at no cost, including transaction tracking, a limited number of categories, single-profile use, and receipt scanning with on-device OCR (Apple Vision).

Premium (Pro) Features: Access to advanced features requires a purchase, including:

Unlimited categories and custom labels
Advanced analytics, financial insights, and financial health scoring
iCloud sync across devices via CloudKit
Data export (JSON/CSV) and data import
Multi-profile support
Recurring transactions
On-device machine learning features (auto-categorization, merchant normalization, transaction clustering, sentiment analysis)
Budget management and cash flow projections
Profile sharing and collaboration via CloudKit
Full multi-language support (20 languages: Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese Brazil, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese) including localized widgets and system permission prompts

Purchase Options: We offer a one-time "Lifetime Premium" purchase and auto-renewable "Weekly" and "Yearly" subscriptions.

4. Camera & Photo Library Access

The App may request access to your device's camera and photo library for receipt scanning. All image processing is performed on-device — no images are transmitted to any server. You can manage these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

5. AI & Machine Learning Features

The App includes on-device machine learning capabilities designed to help you organize and understand your spending:

Transaction Classification: Automatically suggests categories for your transactions.
Merchant Normalization: Standardizes merchant names for consistent tracking.
Transaction Clustering: Groups similar transactions to identify spending patterns.
Sentiment Analysis: Analyzes transaction notes to provide spending insights.

All machine learning processing is performed 100% on your device. No data is transmitted to external servers for AI or ML processing. These features are for informational and organizational purposes only — they do not constitute financial advice.

6. Not Financial Advice

iExpenses is a tool for tracking and organizing your personal finances. It does not provide financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. The App, including all ML-generated insights, spending suggestions, financial health scores, analytics, and budget projections, is provided for informational purposes only. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions and should consult with a qualified professional for specific advice.

7. Data Import & Export

The App allows you to export and import your financial data:

Export Formats: Data can be exported as JSON or CSV files via the system share sheet.
Import: You can import transactions from JSON or CSV files. You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of imported data.
Backup: We recommend regularly exporting your data for backup purposes. We are not responsible for data loss resulting from device failure, app deletion, or loss of iCloud access.

8. Notifications

The App uses local notifications for recurring transaction reminders and budget alerts. Notifications are delivered locally on your device — we do not use push notification servers, and no data is transmitted externally for notification delivery. You can manage notification permissions in your iOS Settings at any time.

9. Usage Restrictions

You agree not to:

Copy, modify, or create derivative works based on the App.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code.
Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any local, state, or international law.
Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices (including copyright and trademark notices).

10. Purchases and Subscriptions

All transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store.

Subscriptions: Auto-renewable subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
Free Trials: Free trials (if offered) will automatically convert to a paid subscription unless canceled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Refunds: All refund requests must be directed to Apple Support, as we do not have the technical ability to process refunds directly.

11. Data and Privacy

Your privacy is paramount. Use of the App is subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains that your data is stored locally on your device or in your personal iCloud account via CloudKit. We do not have access to your financial transactions.

Profile Sharing

Ownership: The profile owner retains full ownership of shared data. Sharing grants access to invited participants but does not transfer ownership.
Permissions: The owner controls participant access levels (view-only or editing). The owner may revoke access at any time.
Participant Responsibility: Participants who edit shared data are responsible for their changes. The App is not liable for data modified by shared participants.
Sharing Infrastructure: Profile sharing uses Apple's CloudKit (CKShare) infrastructure. Sharing invitations, access management, and data transfer are handled by Apple. We do not see or control who you share with.
Termination of Sharing: When the owner stops sharing, all participants lose access immediately. Shared data remains in the owner's account.
No Recovery Obligation: We are not obligated to recover data modified or deleted by shared participants.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR PROFITS, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP.

14. Termination

These Terms are effective until terminated by you or us. Your rights under these Terms will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any of its provisions. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the App and delete all copies.

15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. You hereby attorn to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, for any disputes arising out of these Terms.

16. Apple Standard EULA

In addition to these Terms, your use of the App is also subject to the Apple Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
